A Bit About HTC Guest, Cedric
It is always the best part of our day when we get to sit down and talk with guests about their lives and experiences. Every day we are amazed by the people who grace us with their resiliency and spirit. Cedric is no exception. Since he started frequenting the HTC with his friend Jeremy a couple of months ago, his positive energy and infectious smile have brightened everyone's day. We sat down to ask Cedric about his life and experience on the streets so far - here’s what he had to say:
Where are you from?
I’m from a mid-size city in Polk County Florida called Lakeland.
How old are you?
I’m born in the Libra season - October - and I’m 27 years old
How long have you been unhoused?
I’ve been homeless since January 2021 upon arriving to New Orleans.
Where do you sleep?
I’ve slept by friends, at shelters, outside, etc. It’s not pleasant. For about six months I slept in the bed of my boss’s Ford F-150, where I decorated it as if it was a cute little camping tent. Currently, I sleep in a tent with my friend Jeremy.
What do you love to do?
I love to talk and want to be a great communicator. I love to be a relatable person as well. I LOVE art - I’m an art fanatic of all forms including architecture, fashion, music, cinema, sculpture, painting, and poetry.
What do you do when you aren’t at the Center?
Getting on Jeremy’s nerves - just kidding. I try to stay productive, stay well-hydrated. I got to the park a lot and sit in the shade. I attend church and go to the library to work on art and utilize their resources.
What are your goals?
My essential and immediate goal is to get housing. However, long-term, I want to produce art in all forms and showcase it. I would love to own my own fashion house: Jadore and Cefalone.
We are so grateful for Cedric's kind sentiments about our Center and the work we do for the unhoused community. Being able to reflect on the kindness and gratitude that our guests feel fills our hearts. People like Cedric help make the HTC more than a facility that meets people's basic needs, but a community built on love and mutual respect.
